Description
The famous wooden pioneer wagon as a Welcome sign in Needles, California is located on old Route 66 at the edge of the city. This historic Wild West symbol is also known as "Borax Wagon" and its name came from the time when in the 1880s, borax was mined in the area, and this huge vehicle carried the workers from the mines to the railway, pulled by eighteen mules and two horses. It was donated to the town in the 1960s. Originally it was a sign for the El Rancho Hotel, and in 2009 it was re-purposed as the Welcome Wagon sign and moved to its current location.
